About

About The Standard of Living

The Standard of Living at Theatre Royal Haymarket is a brand new world-premiere play by James Graham. Directed by Nicholas Hytner, it opens in the West End for a strictly limited 12-week season from 21 September.

The play follows economist and Bloomsbury Group member John Maynard Keynes, moving between Whitehall and a circle of artists, writers and lovers. It centres on Keynes, his wife Lydia Lopokova, his relationship with Duncan Grant and his friendship with Virginia Woolf, as markets crash and Britain edges towards chaos.

Alive with music, dance, desire and debate, the production asks what makes a good life. It stars Rory Kinnear and Natalia Osipova, who makes her West End debut in the production.

Key facts: Opens at Theatre Royal Haymarket from 21 September for a strictly limited 12-week season. Natalia Osipova will not appear at the evening performances on Friday 16 October, Wednesday 21 October and Wednesday 4 November, or at the matinee and evening performances on Thursday 22 October and Thursday 5 November.
