About

The Mildmay Radical Club opened in 1888 on Newington Green as part of the new wave of working men’s clubs, designed to extend clubs to working class men as an alternative to the pubs. Founded with the aim of “social intercourse, rational recreation and the advancement of progress in political opinions”, the club's roots were in radical politics and social campaigns. The current building dates to 1900, and retains almost all of its original features.
