The Seagull plays at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Chekhov’s twentieth-century classic follows an actress, her lover, her playwright son and an aspiring performer at a house by a lake, as a play within a play develops into a story of art, ego and love.
Caroline Steinbeis and Rory Mullarkey, who worked on Three Sisters at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, return as director and translator for this production. The Seagull is Chekhov’s first of his four major plays and is inspired by Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
