The Seagull at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse follows an actress, her lover, her playwright son and an aspiring performer in a house by a lake. What begins as a play within a play becomes a story about art, ego and love, with the question of what is left behind when the curtain falls.

Caroline Steinbeis and Rory Mullarkey, who worked together on Three Sisters at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, return as director and translator for Chekhov’s twentieth-century classic. It is the first of his four major plays and was inspired by Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
