About The Animals Come to the Table

The Animals Come to the Table at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is the world premiere of a new play by Timberlake Wertenbaker, written for the candlelit theatre. The play begins with the lights going out and a secret emergency meeting, as a negotiator and an interpreter are faced with a chicken, a rat, a snow leopard and voices from the natural world.

It is a play about exploitation and ecological destruction, shaped by politics, wit, philosophy and mischief. Wertenbaker’s work includes Our Country’s Good, Jefferson’s Garden, The Love of the Nightingale and Little Brother.
