The Animals Come to the Table is a world premiere by Timberlake Wertenbaker at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Written for the candlelit theatre, it begins when the lights go out and a negotiator and interpreter are summoned to a secret emergency meeting.
Waiting at the table are a chicken, a rat, a snow leopard and an army of voices from the natural world. The play brings politics, wit, philosophy and mischief together in a story about exploitation, ecological destruction and a moment when the earth answers back.
Wertenbaker is one of the UK’s leading playwrights, and her work includes Our Country’s Good, Jefferson’s Garden, The Love of the Nightingale and Little Brother, which are studied and performed worldwide.
