The Animals Come to the Table at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is a world premiere play written by Timberlake Wertenbaker. Written for the candlelit theatre, it centres on a negotiator and an interpreter called to a secret emergency meeting.

Waiting for them are a chicken, a rat, a snow leopard and an army of voices from the natural world, all demanding an end to exploitation and ecological destruction. The play brings together politics, wit, philosophy and mischief as it imagines the moment humanity is summoned to the negotiating table.

Wertenbaker’s work includes Our Country’s Good, Jefferson’s Garden, The Love of the Nightingale and Little Brother, and his plays are studied and performed worldwide.
