The Animals Come to the Table is a world premiere by Timberlake Wertenbaker at the candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Written by one of the UK’s leading playwrights, it centres on a negotiator and an interpreter called to a secret emergency meeting.

Waiting for them are a chicken, a rat, a snow leopard and an army of voices from the natural world, all demanding an end to exploitation and ecological destruction. The play brings together politics, wit, philosophy and mischief in a story about what happens when humanity is confronted by nature.

Wertenbaker’s work includes Our Country’s Good, Jefferson’s Garden, The Love of the Nightingale and Little Brother, and her plays are studied and performed worldwide.
