The Animals Come To The Table

About The Animals Come to the Table

The Animals Come to the Table is a world premiere at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse by Timberlake Wertenbaker, one of the UK’s leading playwrights and the writer of Our Country’s Good. Written for the candlelit playhouse, it imagines what happens when nature finally answers back.

When the lights go out, a negotiator and an interpreter are summoned to a secret emergency meeting. Waiting for them are a chicken, a rat, a snow leopard and an army of voices from the natural world, all demanding an end to exploitation and ecological destruction.

Described as funny, furious and unsettling, the play brings together politics, wit, philosophy and mischief in a story about stepping into someone else’s shoes. Wertenbaker’s work includes Jefferson’s Garden, The Love of the Nightingale and Little Brother, and is studied and performed worldwide.
