Cinderella at Sadler’s Wells Theatre sees New Adventures return to Sadler’s Wells this Christmas for the 30th anniversary celebration of Matthew Bourne’s production. Set in London during the Second World War, it reimagines the classic fairytale as a wartime love story centred on Cinderella and a young RAF pilot.

A chance meeting leads to one magical night before the pair are separated by the Blitz. The production places the story against the sights and sounds of war-torn London, with Lez Brotherston’s Olivier Award-winning designs, Neil Austin’s Olivier Award-winning lighting, Duncan McLean’s video and projection designs, and Paul Groothuis’s sound design drawing the audience into Prokofiev’s score.

Matthew Bourne’s interpretation combines familiar story elements with a wartime setting and vivid storytelling, presenting the fable through the lens of London life during a period when every second counted and lives changed forever.

Running time: 2 hours 20 minutes, including 2 intervals.
