Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella returns to Sadler’s Wells Theatre this Christmas for New Adventures’ 30th anniversary celebration of one of their most popular productions. Set in London during the Second World War, this version of the classic fairytale centres on a wartime romance between Cinderella and a young RAF pilot, who meet by chance and fall in love before being parted by the Blitz.
The production brings together Lez Brotherston’s Olivier Award-winning designs, lighting by Olivier Award-winning Neil Austin, video and projection designs by Duncan McLean, and sound design by Paul Groothuis. Set to Prokofiev’s score, it presents the story against the sights and sounds of war-torn London.
Key facts: Running time 2 hours 20 minutes, including 2 intervals.
Strictly no under 5s. Some scenes may not be suitable for very young children. The production includes smoke/haze, possible strobe lighting in brief blasts, explosions, loud noises, sirens and smoking.
