Cinderella at Sadler’s Wells Theatre sees New Adventures return to the venue this Christmas for the 30th anniversary celebration of Matthew Bourne’s production. Set in London during the Second World War, it reimagines the classic fairytale as a wartime love story between Cinderella and a young RAF pilot, with their meeting unfolding against the Blitz.
The production features Lez Brotherston’s Olivier Award-winning designs, lighting by Olivier Award-winning Neil Austin, video and projection designs by Duncan McLean, and sound design by Paul Groothuis. It also draws on Prokofiev’s score and the sights and sounds of war-torn London.
Bourne’s interpretation places the familiar story in a historical setting shaped by romance, separation and the pressures of wartime life in London.
Running time: 2 hours 20 minutes, including 2 intervals.
Age guidance: Strictly no under 5s. Some scenes may not be suitable for very young children.
Content and effects: The production includes smoke/haze, possible strobe lighting in short bursts, explosions, loud noises, sirens and smoking.
Refunds and exchanges: No exchanges or refunds after purchase.
