Ballet Black 25 at Sadler's Wells Theatre marks twenty-five years of Cassa Pancho's Ballet Black, a company that has brought original stories and new ballet works to stages across the UK. This anniversary season reflects on a quarter of a century of innovation, mentoring and collaboration, while looking ahead to the company's future.
The programme is a double bill. Ingoma (2019), the choreographic debut of former company dancer Mthuthuzeli November, is inspired by the 1946 South African miners' strike and focuses on the suffering and resilience of Black miners and their communities. The work won the 2020 Olivier Award and the Black British Theatre Award for Best Dance Production.
It is joined by …all towards hope, a new commission from Hope Boykin for Ballet Black's 25th year. Boykin, a two-time Bessie Award winner, is making her UK choreographic debut with a celebratory piece created for the company.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes, including one 20 minute interval.
Age guidance is 7+. This production is strictly not suitable for under 5s. It contains threat of violence, simulated death, haze effects and gun shot effects.
