About Stranger Things: The First Shadow

Stranger Things: The First Shadow at the Phoenix Theatre is set in Hawkins in 1959, before the world turned upside down. The story follows a town with ordinary worries, where young Jim Hopper’s car will not start, Bob Newby’s sister does not take his radio show seriously, and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and leave town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, a fresh start proves harder than expected.

Brought to life by a multi-award-winning creative team, the production uses theatrical storytelling and stagecraft to take audiences back to the beginning of the Stranger Things story. It is designed as a new chapter that explores the events leading into the wider Stranger Things world.

Before you book

This production is recommended for ages 12+. Under 5s are not permitted, and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. The show contains gunfire audio, loud noises, explosions, haze, smoke, flashing lights and strobe, strong language, and depictions of mental health conditions and disorders.

The venue opens 90 minutes before the start time, and you should arrive at least 30 minutes before the performance begins. Latecomers will be admitted at a suitable point, which may be the interval. No exchanges or refunds are available after purchase.

Accessible performances are scheduled for Sunday 20th September 2026 at 15:00 for BSL interpreted, Sunday 27th September 2026 at 15:00 for audio described, and Sunday 4th October 2026 at 15:00 and Sunday 6th December 2026 at 15:00 for captioned performances.
