How does a documentary begin with an idea - and eventually find its way to audiences across different countries and cultures?

Join us for a special Odyssey 2026 masterclass with Joanna Bowers, Jury President of Odyssey 2026, exploring the creative and practical journey of international documentary filmmaking.

Drawing on her own experience as a British filmmaker working internationally, Joanna will share insights into developing documentary stories, working across cultures, navigating the filmmaking process, and creating work that can connect with audiences beyond its place of origin.

As part of the masterclass, we will also screen her documentary re-Fashioned (2021)- a particularly fitting film for this year's Odyssey theme of #Fashion - followed by an opportunity to discuss the film, its making and the wider realities of documentary production directly with Joanna.

For film students, emerging filmmakers, documentary makers and anyone interested in international storytelling, this is a chance not simply to watch a documentary, but to meet the filmmaker behind it and understand how the work came together.
