The Children at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre is Lucy Kirkwood’s darkly funny drama, directed by Artistic Director Rachel O’Riordan in this 10th anniversary production. It stars the Olivier Award-nominated Meera Syal as Hazel.

Hazel and Robin have survived a catastrophe and are living on the edge of a radiation exclusion zone, trying to maintain some kind of normal life. When their old friend Rose arrives, she brings buried memories, old secrets and a proposition that tests loyalty and forces them to confront their debt to the next generation.

The play centres on a fraught, intimate situation and combines domestic detail with the wider consequences of the catastrophe. It is a character-led drama with a strong focus on relationships, responsibility and what is owed to those who come after.
