Fences at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre is August Wilson’s landmark play, set in 1950s Pittsburgh. It follows Troy Maxson as the pressures of his past and present build at home, where his wife, Rose, is holding the family together and their son Cory is looking towards a different future.
Directed by award-winning Daniel Bailey, this new production presents Wilson’s story of family, ambition and changing expectations in a clear, contemporary stage setting while staying rooted in the original period and characters.
