Fences at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre is August Wilson’s landmark play, set in 1950s Pittsburgh. Troy Maxson has cheated death once, but the past continues to press in on his home life. At the centre of the story are Troy, his wife Rose, and their son Cory, as dreams, pressure and changing hopes move the family towards a reckoning.
This new production is directed by Daniel Bailey, the award-winning director of Red Pitch and West End. Written by one of America’s most influential 20th century writers, the play looks at ambition, family and the cost of choices in a way that remains sharply relevant.
