Fences at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre is August Wilson’s play set in 1950s Pittsburgh. Troy Maxson has cheated death once, but the past continues to shape life at home, where Rose is trying to hold the family together as hopes for their son Cory begin to clash with Troy’s outlook.
The play follows a family under pressure as dreams, tempers and changing expectations collide. It returns in a new production directed by award-winning Daniel Bailey (Red Pitch, West End).
Written by one of America’s most influential 20th-century writers, it is a story about ambition, family and the limits people build around themselves.
