An Ideal Husband at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre is Oscar Wilde’s comedy about Sir Robert Chiltern, whose carefully managed life is threatened when the devious Mrs Cheveley arrives with secrets to reveal. Her revelations put scandal, betrayal and public disgrace on the table, as the play asks how far a man will go to protect his reputation. The production is directed by the Lyric’s Associate Director, Nicholai La Barrie.
The story focuses on London society, private ambition and the strain of maintaining a perfect public image. Wilde’s sharp comedy sits at the centre of this new production.
