SUNDAY WEST SOUNDSYSTEM RETURNS HOME FOR NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL 2026 WITH "SPIRIT OF 96" - A CELEBRATION OF 30 YEARS OF GOLDEN ERA RAVING
As Notting Hill Carnival celebrates its landmark 60th anniversary in 2026, one of West London's most respected after party institutions returns home for its biggest edition yet.
After a year away, Sunday West Soundsystem returns to Loft Studios - the scene of some of its biggest and most unforgettable dances over the last 15 years - for a special Carnival Sunday session titled:
**SPIRIT OF 96**
A one-night celebration marking 30 years since 1996 the year many still regard as the greatest era in UK underground music, rave culture, fashion and sound system energy.
1996 was the turning point.
The year jungle evolved into drum & bass.
The year UK garage began rolling heavier than ever.
The year pirate radio ruled London.
The year every weekend felt electric.
It was the era of Roast, Telepathy, One Nation, Desire, Heat, Sun City, La Cosa Nostra and Exposure.
The era of Kool FM and Ice FM blasting through tower block aerials, cassette packs getting rewound to destruction and dancefloors packed wall-to-wall until daylight.
And the fashion?
Moschino. Versace. Iceberg.
Silk shirts. Big labels. Bigger personalities.
For one night only, Sunday West rewinds the clock and brings that feeling back to West London.
This year, every headline DJ and artist was given one simple brief:
**"Play what you were playing in 96."**
The result is a line-up built around authentic selectors and genuine pioneers of the era - artists who lived it, shaped it and soundtracked it the first time around.
Leading the charge is a very special back-to-back set from jungle and drum & bass legend Jumpin Jack Frost alongside Sunday West founder Rufus - delivering a heavyweight selection of 1996 jungle and drum & bass classics.
Joining them are UK rave icons The Ragga Twins alongside MC Moose, bringing the raw energy and lyrical fire that defined the golden era of jungle raving.
House and garage pioneer Matt "Jam" Lamont steps up for a deep 1996 US house and garage session packed with Tuff Jam productions and underground rollers, with MC Sharky P on hosting duties.
Meanwhile, UK garage godfather Norris "da Boss" Windross delivers a pure 1996 UK house and garage set alongside MC Sharky P - revisiting the sounds that laid the foundations for an entire movement.
Sunday West residents and extended family will also be representing across the day and night, including:
Paolo Francesco b2b Leroy Roberts
Nick James b2b Rufus performing a special 360 vinyl house set
Chloe Fontaine b2b Kaz Daniels serving up rolling house grooves
Newcomer, the west London lady Poppi, opening the dance with a deep house journey designed to set the tone from the very beginning.
Hosting the entire session is West London legend MC Chalkie White a true Carnival voice and underground mic veteran.
The event begins outdoors in the courtyard with a fully powered sound system experience before seamlessly transferring into the Loft Studios main room later in the evening, with both spaces connected sonically as the energy builds throughout the night.
Production comes courtesy of NKN Productions, who will be delivering a heavyweight custom sound system and full dry hire build designed specifically for the occasion.
Sunday West Soundsystem is also proud to announce Duppy Share as official rum partner for 2026, bringing their unmistakable Caribbean spirit to Carnival Sunday.
One era.
One dance.
Another legendary Sunday session for Carnival 2026.
The vibes are returning home.
