My Neighbour Totoro at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London is a stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated film. It follows sisters Satsuki and Mei through one extraordinary summer, exploring childhood, imagination and a fantasy world shaped by their experience.

The production is now playing in London’s West End and has won six Olivier Awards. It is created in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV, with the Royal Shakespeare Company, executive producer Joe Hisaishi and an adaptation by Tom Morton-Smith.

The show features puppets, including some large-scale puppets that interact in the audience space.

Running time: 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20-minute interval.

Before you book

Age guidance: Recommended for ages 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 6 years, including babes in arms, and children under 4 years old will not be admitted into the auditorium. Children must occupy their own seats throughout the performance. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, seated with them for the whole visit. Younger children and babes in arms are welcome at relaxed performances.

Tickets and content: Everyone entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket. Single seats cannot be left in a row when booking. The show contains themes of an ill parent in hospital, live music and sound effects that may be loud at times and possibly scary for some younger children.
