My Neighbour Totoro at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London’s West End is the stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated film. Created in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV, and adapted by Tom Morton-Smith, it follows sisters Satsuki and Mei through one extraordinary summer as they discover a magical fantasy world and the power of imagination.
This record-breaking production has won six Olivier Awards and is produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company, with Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi.
The running time is 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20-minute interval.
The age recommendation is 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 6 years old, including babes in arms, and children under 4 years old will not be admitted to the auditorium. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, who must be seated with them throughout the visit. Every person entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket. Children need to occupy their own seat at all times. Single seats cannot be left in a row when booking. The show includes puppets, including some large-scale puppets that interact in audience space, themes of an ill parent in hospital, live music, and sound effects that may be loud or scary at moments. Younger guests and babes in arms are welcome at relaxed performances.
