About

About My Neighbour Totoro

My Neighbour Totoro at the Gillian Lynne Theatre is a stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated film, now playing in London’s West End. It follows sisters Satsuki and Mei through one extraordinary summer and tells a coming-of-age story about childhood, imagination and fantasy.

The production has won six Olivier Awards and is presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company with Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi, in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV. It is adapted for the stage by Tom Morton-Smith.

The show features puppets, including some large-scale puppets that interact in audience space, and brings the film’s story to the stage with live music and sound effects.

Running time: 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20-minute interval. Awards: winner of six Olivier Awards.

Before you book

Age recommendation: 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 6 years old, including babes in arms, and children under 4 years old will not be admitted. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, who must be seated with them. Every person entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket. Children need to occupy their own seat at all times, and single seats cannot be left in a row when booking. The production includes puppets in audience space, themes of an ill parent in hospital, and live music and sound effects that may be loud and, at times, scary for some younger children. Younger guests and babes in arms are welcome at relaxed performances.
