

My Neighbour Totoro is now playing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London’s West End. This stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated film is created in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV, and is adapted by Tom Morton-Smith, with Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi.
The production follows sisters Satsuki and Mei through one extraordinary summer, combining a coming-of-age story with a fantasy world shaped by childhood imagination. It is a record-breaking production and has won six Olivier Awards.
Key facts: Running time 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20 minute interval.
Age guidance: Recommended for ages 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 6 years, including babes in arms, and children under 4 years, including babes in arms, will not be admitted to the auditorium. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, seated with them throughout the visit. Children need to occupy their own seats at all times, and all persons entering the theatre must have a valid ticket.
Content and seating: The show features puppets, including some large-scale puppets that interact in audience space. It also contains themes of an ill parent in hospital, and live music and sound effects that can be loud at times and possibly scary for some younger children. Single seats cannot be left in a row when booking.
