About
About RENT
RENT at the Duke of York’s Theatre is Jonathan Larson’s musical returning to the West End in a new production directed by Luke Sheppard and starring Gaten Matarazzo as Mark. Thirty years after it redefined musical theatre, it comes back in a production built around the same story of friendship, resilience and making each moment count.
Inspired by Puccini’s La Bohème, RENT follows a generation living through uncertainty while holding on to community and connection. Its score and story have continued to resonate with audiences, and the production closes with Larson’s familiar message: no day but today.
Running time: 2 hours and 45 minutes, including one interval.
Before you book
RENT is recommended for ages 14+. The production contains themes of HIV/AIDS, bereavement, drug use, suicide, sex and sex work, as well as strong language, smoking, haze and strobe lighting.
