RENT at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London is Jonathan Larson’s musical, returning to the West End in a new production directed by Luke Sheppard. Set to a contemporary score and rooted in the energy of the original show, it brings Larson’s work back to the stage in a form designed for today’s audience.
Inspired by Puccini’s La Bohème, RENT follows a generation facing uncertainty while trying to hold on to joy, connection and resilience. The production centres on community and living in the moment, with the musical’s well-known score driving a story that continues to resonate.
Key facts: Running time is 2 hours and 45 minutes, including one interval.
RENT is recommended for ages 14+. It contains themes of HIV/AIDS, bereavement, drug use, suicide, sex and sex work, plus strong language, smoking, haze and strobe lighting.
