About Franz & Marie

Franz & Marie at The Arches, London, is a stage adaptation of Georg Büchner’s Woyzeck, set as an Indie Raw Folk musical in a late 19th-century European folklore world. It follows Franz Woyzeck, a soldier stationed with a platoon at an isolated outpost after service on the front line, as nightmares and hallucinations blur his sense of reality.

Franz lives for Marie and their baby, Georgie, but wartime restrictions mean they have not been able to marry and he cannot take leave. Originally commissioned two decades ago by the award-winning Korean company Acom, the piece is brought to the stage with a 14-strong cast of actor-musicians.
