About Franz & Marie
Franz & Marie at The Arches, London is a folk musical based on Georg Büchner’s Woyzeck. Set in the late 19th century, it follows Franz Woyzeck, a soldier stationed at an isolated outpost after front-line action, as he lives with nightmares and hallucinations while trying to provide for Marie and their baby, Georgie.
The production was originally commissioned two decades ago by the award-winning Korean company Acom and created by key members of The Singing Loins. This stage version has been adapted for a 14-strong cast of actor-musicians, with music and lyrics by Chris Broderick and Rob Shepherd.
Key facts: A 14-strong cast of actor-musicians presents this adaptation of Woyzeck, drawing on the original Singing Loins show and its commission from Acom.
