Franz & Marie at Charing Cross Theatre is a new musical inspired by Georg Büchner’s Woyzeck. It has book and lyrics by Chris Broderick, a new adaptation by Teresa Howard, and music by Rob Shepherd and Chris Broderick, with additional music, arrangements and orchestrations by Steven Edis.
Originally commissioned two decades ago by the award-winning Korean company ACOM and created with key members of The Singing Loins, this version is staged with a 14-strong cast of actor-musicians. Set in late 19th-century Europe, it follows Franz Woyzeck, his girlfriend Marie and their baby Georgie, with themes of class prejudice and toxic masculinity, plus sharp dark humour.
The production runs at Charing Cross Theatre from Monday 28 September to Saturday 14 November, with a press performance on Monday 5 October.
