Dark of the Moon at The Arches, London is a supernatural musical about witchcraft, prejudice and love. It brings together a rural Appalachian town and the mystical world of witches and warlocks from the Smoky Mountains, with the story built around Barbara Allen, a human girl, and John, a curious witch-boy, as they try to build a life together.

The show’s score uses a blend of country, bluegrass and rock to reflect the two worlds at the centre of the story. It is described as a timeless new musical, with the conflict between community expectations and personal feelings driving the narrative.

The plot follows whether love can survive a deal made by the dark of the moon, alongside the tensions created by small-town prejudices and powerful witchcraft.
