House of 52 is a private members' club for women. On Wednesday 14 October we open the London House, and the opening night is open to everyone, members and not.
Here is what actually happens. You arrive and you are handed a drink. You are not left standing on your own holding it, because we run match games, which sound ridiculous written down and are the reason nobody ends up in a corner looking at her phone. Then there is Confession Corner, which we are not explaining in a listing.
It is a Wednesday, and that is the point. Saturday belongs to everyone. Wednesday belongs to the women who stopped waiting for an occasion to come along before they put something decent on.
Who comes: women, most of them on their own, most of them in their thirties and forties, all of them people who used to go out and then quietly stopped. You do not need to be a member. You do not need to bring anyone. A lot of women arrive alone and leave in a group, and that is the entire design of the evening rather than a happy accident.
What you get: a welcome drink, the games, the confessions, and a room of women who all walked in slightly nervous.
What to wear: the thing you have been saving for a night that never comes. This is the night. Nobody is checking and everybody is looking.
What it is not: a networking event. Nobody is handing out cards and nobody is pitching you.
Tickets are 25 pounds and include the welcome drink. Fifty two seats, which is the number the whole club is named after and not a marketing device.
The room is a few minutes from Liverpool Street. The exact address goes to ticket holders the week of the event. We never post our locations publicly, partly as a courtesy to the venue and mostly so no men turn up.
House of 52 runs every Wednesday, city by city. London opens first. Harrogate follows on 28 October with a theatrical seance.
