Ivanov at the Bridge Theatre is Simon Stone’s contemporary staging of Chekhov’s comic drama. It follows Nikolai, who feels he has forgotten how to be happy despite a successful career, a marriage to the “perfect” woman and the appearance of settled mid-life.

As debts build and his wife is affected by unexplained illnesses, Nikolai begins to question what is wrong and why everything feels as if it is falling apart. The story centres on a party at the Lebedevs’ home, where he has to face whether his marriage, career and will to live can hold together.

The production brings Chekhov’s story into the contemporary world, with the same creative team that worked on The Lady from the Sea.
