About Ivanov
Ivanov is a contemporary staging of Chekhov’s comic drama. Nikolai has a successful career and a seemingly perfect wife, but debts, his wife’s unexplained illnesses and a growing sense that life is slipping out of control leave him wondering why everything feels as if it is falling apart.
The story follows him as he heads towards a party at the Lebedevs’ and tries to hold together his marriage, career and sense of purpose all at once. It is a play about burnout, strain and the pressure of keeping a life in order when it no longer feels steady.
Simon Stone brings the production into the contemporary world, with the same creative team that brought The Lady from the Sea to life.
Key facts: No one under 5 is permitted within the auditorium, and the production is advised for ages 12+. Latecomers may be admitted during a suitable break during the performance.
