Billy Elliot the Musical is an award-winning British musical returning to London after ten years away from its original home in the city. Seen by almost 12 million people across five continents and honoured with more than 80 awards worldwide, it is one of the most successful British musicals of all time.
Set in a northern town during the miners’ strike of 1984/5, the show follows Billy as he moves from the boxing ring to ballet class and discovers a passion for dance that changes his life. His journey also affects his family and community, with music by Elton John and a creative team drawn from the film version.
As a stage production, it combines a well-known story with a major British setting and a long record of international success. It is described as returning to London with the same energy and humour that helped make it such a wide-reaching hit.
