Review of Secret Affair

Overall rating: 4 Verified review

A bit of a lower turn out than usual for Secret Affair at the 229. Maybe London needs to have a word with itself. £7 for pints of lukewarm drink is off putting for us travelling from the North. What happened to T-shirt prices at gigs? 1 minute they were £12-£15 & now £25 so I don't even look.
The venue the 229 is steeped in history. Tucked away near Great Portland Street and rumoured to be once owned by the Stones.
Squire started the night and played everything you want to hear. Singles and select cuts from the "Get Smart" album. Shame they only had 45 minutes. 45 mins that whizzed by and felt like 20. Perfect 60's psychedelic pop.
Secret Affair are a great live band. In Dave Cairns they have a one of the greatest guitarists in the business. You can't take your eyes off him.
The only downside is the lack of songs from 'Behind Closed Doors' Their hit album from 1980. We get a paltry 1.5 songs.
Still the closing trio of hits belted out by band and audience alike are as strong as anyone can produce. "My World" is one of the most perfect songs ever made.
Go see.
