The Steve Pilgrim Band at The Quarry
Steve Pilgrim | Rachael Jean Harris
The Steve Pilgrim Band comprises of a stellar lineup of musical talent with drummer Jim Sharrock (The Lightning Seeds/Jamie Webster), bass from Vicky Edwards (The Aeroplanes/ John Head), the hardest working musician in Liverpool Martin Smith (Micheal Head and TREB) on trumpet, and one of Merseyside’s finest ever vocalists Rachael Jean Harris.
Steve himself first emerged as drummer with the acclaimed "Bandwagon" generation outfit The Stands, part of the vibrant Merseyside scene that also produced The Coral, The Zutons and a wave of artists who would help redefine British guitar music in the early 2000s. From there he went on to work with John Power and Cast, before getting the call from Paul Weller, who he has written, recorded and toured with for the last 17 years.
Away from the drums and away from the spotlight of major tours lies a songwriter of exceptional depth and subtlety. Across five critically acclaimed studio albums Steve has quietly built a body of work that has earned admiration from fellow musicians, critics and audiences alike. His songs draw inspiration from the melodic craftsmanship of the great singer-songwriters of the 1960s and 70s while addressing the realities of modern life with honesty and vulnerability.
"Steve Pilgrim is the music industry's best kept secret. He's an exceptional songwriter."
— Dylan Jones, Editor-in-Chief, GQ Magazine
"One of the great understated modern songsmiths. I love Pilgrim's voice, his lyrics, his sense of melody. I hope people get to hear his music, it's really something special."
— Paul Weller
"A soulful ache of a voice and a brave wide-open lyrical stance..."
— Rob Fitzpatrick, Word Magazine
"An incredible musician and songwriter who captivates the audience with songs that come from deep in his soul. He means every word and every note. Each show just seems to hold the audience in a way that not many solo musicians can."
— Mark Richardson, Loafers Vinyl, Halifax
