Ian McNabb - Live at the Cavern Club
Music Genres
One of the great singer-songwriters to emerge from Liverpool's legendary 80s music scene, Ian McNabb returns to the Cavern Club for a very special afternoon show.
Founder and lead singer of The Icicle Works, Ian McNabb helped define an era with timeless hits including Love Is A Wonderful Colour and Whisper To A Scream (Birds Fly), both of which achieved major chart success in the UK, US, and across Europe. Beyond those iconic songs, McNabb has built a critically acclaimed solo career spanning more than three decades, earning a Mercury Music Prize nomination and the respect of peers across the musical spectrum.
Born and raised in Liverpool, McNabb's journey began after seeing Marc Bolan on Top Of The Pops, leading him from the working men's club circuit to forming The Icicle Works in 1981. The band became a central part of the city's 80s renaissance alongside Echo & The Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, OMD, China Crisis and more, releasing four UK Top 40 albums before disbanding in 1988.
As a solo artist, McNabb has continued to evolve with warmth, wit, cynicism and grandeur. His catalogue includes celebrated albums such as Truth And Beauty, Head Like A Rock (recorded in part with Neil Young's Crazy Horse and nominated for a Mercury Prize), and Merseybeast, alongside a prolific run of self-released records supported by extensive touring.
His collaborations read like a roll-call of modern music history, including work with Ian Broudie, R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, Prof. Brian Cox, Ringo Starr, The Waterboys, Crazy Horse, and members of Oasis. His autobiography Merseybeast has become a cult classic, praised by artists such as R.E.M.'s Peter Buck.
This Cavern Club performance offers a rare chance to experience Ian McNabb up close, drawing from his vast back catalogue, iconic Icicle Works material, and later solo work, performed by one of Liverpool's most enduring and thoughtful musical voices.
