If I could give my experience at this theatre 0 stars I would due the way I was treated by members of staff during the performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Hyde Festival Theatre on 5th November 2025. This was my first visit to your theatre, and the experience left me feeling extremely distressed, upset and extremely uncomfortable in the space.

During the performance bows, I was accused of taking photographs and filming the show. An accusation that was entirely untrue. A staff member initially approached me to and told me that it was prohibited to take pictures and if I had any photos would need to be deleted. I explained that I had not taken any pictures or videos. My phone was on my lap and she assumed that I had been doing so.
This was then followed by a man, who I later learned was named Dan, approached me in an extremely aggressive and confrontational manner. He accused me of breaking copyright laws and theatre rules. Despite my attempts to show him that the last photo on my phone was simply of the programme taken before the show began, and my willingness to show my deleted folder, he continued to speak over me in a hostile tone. I informed him that I found his behaviour aggressive, but he ignored this and continued to talk over me. Dan claimed that I had been "watched by his team" and that they had seen me filming and taking pictures, despite clear evidence to the contrary. Another team member later told me that Rachel, the show director for centre stage, was coming to deal with the situation. When I spoke with Rachel, she apologised and clarified that they had nothing to do with Centre Stage.
Dan, later proudly declared he had no affiliation with Centre Stage and was connected to the theatre, made this announcement while I was outside talking to cast members about the show. I would like to emphasise that I found Dan's behaviour particularly aggressive and intimidating.

As someone who works professionally in theatre, both on and off stage, I was shocked by the lack of professionalism, the aggressive and intimidating nature of the interaction.

I hope that Hyde Festival Theatre ensure that no other patron is treated in such a manner.
