Fronted by Chris Helme, former lead singer of The Seahorses, this intimate live show brings three decades of songwriting to the stage in a stripped-back and deeply personal form.
Helme first rose to prominence in the mid-1990s as the voice of The Seahorses, the band formed by John Squire following his departure from The Stone Roses. Their 1997 debut album Do It Yourself produced Britpop classics including “Love Is The Law”, “Blinded By The Sun”, and “Love Me and Leave Me”, cementing Helme’s reputation as one of the era’s most distinctive vocalists.
Since then, Helme has built a respected solo career blending indie rock with folk-influenced songwriting, releasing albums such as Ashes, The Rookery, and most recently World Of My Own in 2024 — a reflective record exploring the relationships and experiences that shaped the last decade of his life.
Now touring his new project Forest For The Trees, Helme revisits songs from across his 30-year catalogue in beautifully reimagined acoustic arrangements. Expect intimate, stripped-back versions of Seahorses favourites like “Love Me & Leave Me”, “Standing On Your Head”, and “You Can Talk To Me”, alongside material from his solo albums.
Performing live at Coundon WMC, this special evening promises raw, soulful storytelling, powerful vocals and the chance to hear these beloved songs in their most honest and emotional form. Whether you’re reliving the Britpop years or discovering Helme’s songwriting for the first time, this is a rare opportunity to experience a truly authentic live performance from one of Britain’s most enduring singer-songwriters.
