Follies
New York, 1971, and the Weismann Theatre, home to the spectacular Follies shows of the pre-war years, is about to be torn down. In a mood of nostalgic celebration, impresario Dimitri Weismann has organised a reunion of performers from the theatre's golden years - and they come, older but not necessarily wiser, to reminisce about their youth and the fading glory of a lost era. Some have found movie stardom, others quiet domesticity. For two couples, though, simmering tension lies just under the surface. Ben and Phyllis Stone - he a famous diplomat, she the perfect society hostess - meet up with their old friends Buddy Plummer, now a travelling salesman, and Sally, a frustrated housewife. At first, they pretend all is well, laughing about the days when Sally and Phyllis were glamorous chorus girls, and Ben and Buddy would wait for them at the stage door. Soon, however, we begin to see flashbacks to their performing days, and we discover that the truth is far more complicated...
