About

SGREN Health & Healing Day Retreat

Saturday 3rd October | 11am-3pm

The Kingswood Estate

An adults only day to relax, recharge, connect and put your wellbeing first.

South Gloucestershire Race Equality Network (SGREN) warmly invites you to another invigorating day retreat - an uplifting afternoon of movement, relaxation, health information, creativity and connection.

This event has been created primarily for South Gloucestershire's ethnically diverse communities, who are often underrepresented or excluded from mainstream health and wellbeing spaces.

We know that feeling comfortable, understood and represented can make a real difference to how we experience wellbeing services. That is why we are proud that many of the practitioners delivering activities and support on the day are themselves from ethnically diverse backgrounds, bringing not only their professional expertise but a greater understanding of the diverse communities they work with.

Everyone deserves opportunities to prioritise their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing in spaces where they feel welcome, represented and able to be themselves.

Whether you want to get active, try something new, ask questions about your health, enjoy a relaxing treatment, get creative or simply share a cup of tea with others, there will be something for you.

What to expect

Move, stretch and energise

Take part in a programme of wellbeing workshops throughout the day:

- Dance Around the World with Movema

Explore global dance styles in a fun, energetic and inclusive session.

- Nutrition Talk with Vincent

Practical information and advice to support healthier living.

- Stretch and Relaxation with Melody

Slow down, stretch and give your body and mind time to reset.

- Pilates with Syreeta

Improve strength, flexibility and overall wellbeing.

- Ladies' Self-Defence with Susie

Build confidence and learn practical self-defence techniques in a supportive environment.

- Sound Bath with Rounik

End the day with a deeply relaxing and restorative sound experience.

Drop-in wellbeing space

Alongside the workshops, our second studio will be transformed into a welcoming wellbeing and information space where you can drop in throughout the day.

Activities and support will include:

- Health checks and information from Orchard Medical

- One-to-one nutrition questions and advice with Vincent

- Drop-in Shiatsu and Reiki

- Creative wellbeing crafts

- Journaling and reflection prompts

- SGREN's Travelling Library of the World

- Herbal tea, juice and fruit served throughout the day.

- Opportunities to meet others and connect with your community

There is no pressure to take part in everything. Come along and create your own wellbeing experience.

At midday, we will pause to share lunch together and create space to meet new people, connect with others and enjoy some community conversation.

Who is this event for?

This event has been designed primarily to support and centre ethnically diverse communities living in South Gloucestershire.

We recognise that people from ethnically diverse backgrounds can face additional barriers when accessing health, wellbeing and leisure opportunities. They may not always see themselves represented in mainstream wellbeing spaces or feel that services understand their cultural experiences and needs.

SGREN is committed to helping create more inclusive spaces where our communities feel seen, welcomed and valued.

The event is open to anyone who supports this ethos and would like to join us for a positive afternoon focused on wellbeing and community connection.

Pay What You Can

We want this event to be accessible to everyone, which is why we are offering it on a "Pay What You Can" basis.

You can choose the amount you are able and comfortable to contribute when booking your ticket.

Every contribution, however large or small, will help SGREN to continue creating accessible events, activities and opportunities for ethnically diverse communities across South Gloucestershire.

If you are unable to contribute financially, you are still very welcome to attend.

Suggested contributions: £0, £3, £5, £10 or more.

Your wellbeing should never depend on what you can afford.

Come for one activity or stay for the whole afternoon

There is no expectation to take part in every session. You can join us for a workshop, spend time in the drop-in wellbeing space, meet new people or stay for the entire afternoon.

Come and take some time for yourself.

Relax. Move. Connect. Create. Recharge.

We look forward to welcoming you.
