Alternate Presents Photek, Total Science +more!
Music Genres
A true pioneer returns.
For the first time in over 15 years, cult hero Photek returns to Bristol for a rare DJ performance, marking his first appearance in the city since headlining Pinch's legendarySubloadedevent at Lakota in May 2011.
Few artists have left a deeper mark on the evolution of UK electronic music. From the formative days of jungle and drum & bass, through seminal releases on Metalheadz and the genre-defining Modus Operandi, Photek has spent three decades operating at the outer limits of electronic music. A sonic scientist with an uncompromising approach, his productions are defined by sound design innovation, precision and atmosphere that helped reshape the possibilities of jungle and drum & bass in the early-mid 1990s. Other monikers utilised to release Photek's productions include The Sentinel, Studio Pressure, Special Forces, Aquarius and Code of Practice
Beyond the dancefloor, Photek's work has continued to evolve across electronica, film and video games, earning a Grammy nomination and cementing his reputation as one of the most musically-articulate producers to emerge from the UK underground.
Joining him is another cornerstone of the jungle drum & bass diaspora: Total Science, delivering a 2 Hour 30 Years of C.I.A Recordsset alongside Rupture's MC Blackeye.
Few labels can claim the influence, consistency and longevity of C.I.A. Records. Founded by Total Science, the label has been at the heart of forward-thinking drum & bass for three decades; providing a home for some of the scene's most respected producers while continually pushing the music into new territory.
From the deeper, more intricate side of jungle and hardcore, through to rolling dance-floor pressure, Total Science have remained fiercely committed to quality and innovation. This 30-year journey through C.I.A's catalogue will be a celebration of a label that has helped shape the sound of drum & bass across generations.
