Yampy Promotions presents Bathing Suits + support
Operating under the mantra of “Always dancey. Always loud. Always sexy”, Bathing Suits are surging into clubland armed with a battery of abrasive guitars and pummelling techno.
Drawing as much from the frenetic energy of contemporary post-punk acts like Model/Actriz and Psychotic Monks as from the raunchy sensibilities of early 2010s pop, the new single “Empathy” — out today via Underplay Recordings — is a seven-minute noise-trance epic that surges between abrasion and atmosphere. Recorded and produced by Benny Howell, AKA Leeds/Berlin DJ and producer DJ Subaru, the track plays like a dancefloor exorcism, with vocalist /live drum machine operator Freyja Blevins a possessed sermon leader, leading a procession of chants of “Lack Empathy!”
Speaking on the track she adds:
“It’s about feeling like there’s no empathy left for anyone – like we’ve run out of it or something. The song feels cold, angry, suffocating and tense. But it was really fun writing and working on it together”
Borne out of the DIY party scene in their Leeds hometown, the band’s first rehearsals took place in the very same basements as their homemade clubnights; a tiny space decked out to the max with blaring PAs, rumbling sub-woofers and elaborate lighting rigs.
Already notorious for their high octane live show, Bathing Suits have been prodigiously gigging up and down the UK and beyond in the past year: sharing stages with the likes of Prostitute, Man/Woman Chainsaw, Kassie Krut, TTSSFU, and The Umlauts as well as a slew of festival performances, including at France’s premier festival Transmusicales in December 2025. The band are due to play The Great Escape and Green Man festival to name but a few.
Last year the band picked up an early stream of industry backing following earlier singles ‘Lousy Havoc / Relay’, and ‘I Can Be A Freak’ the band have already turned the ears of tastemakers at Bandcamp, Far Out, So Young Magazine, Louder Than War, BBC Radio 6 (Steve Lamacq) Radio X (John Kennedy) and BBC Introducing (Emily Pilbeam).
Bathing Suits are the inaugural signing to Underplay Recordings, a new venture distributed in partnership with Virgin Music Group. Following previous collaborations on campaigns for Art School Girlfriend and Anthony Szmierek at a management level, the two companies will now deepen their relationship, with all Underplay label releases to be distributed exclusively by Virgin Music Group.
