Birmingham’s first and only whiskey distillery, Spirit of Birmingham, headlines Wednesday night of The Anchor Digbeth’s 1-Year Anniversary Week for a special Irish Whiskey and ‘Uisce Beatha’ tasting session.
Hosted inside our historic 1797 Irish Quarter pub on the corner of Bradford and Rea Streets, this guided session explores the centuries-old story of ‘uisce beatha’ (the Gaelic ‘water of life’) and the deep distilling ties between Ireland and Birmingham.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
• The History of ‘Uisce Beatha’ — An illustrated and guided look at the origins of Irish distilling, pot stills, and cask maturation.
• Up to 4 Irish Whiskies — A comparative guided flight showcasing distinctive regional and cask styles from across Ireland.
• Birmingham’s First Own Single Malt — A special tasting pour of the landmark single malt distilled right here in the city by Spirit of Birmingham.
• Live Q&A — Meet the team behind Birmingham’s first whiskey distillery in the warm mahogany and Minton-tiled surroundings of The Anchor.
Plus, available at the bar all week: our first-ever collaboration with legendary Balti house Shabab’s — the ‘Cheese & Onion Bhaji’ crusty cob — and pint voting in our £100 Bar Tab Halloween & Samhain Pumpkin Competition.
