About

Femi Williams, known to many as Femi Fem, began his journey in London’s underground music scene during the 1980s, co-founding the legendary Family Funktion and Shake & Fingerpop warehouse parties. These pioneering events helped ignite the rare grooveand acid jazz movements that reshaped UK club culture.

In 1990, Femi co-founded the groundbreaking band Young Disciples alongside Marco Nelson and Carleen Anderson. Their fusion of funk, soul, hip hop, and breakbeats defined the sound of a generation, placing authenticity and artistry at the core of their work. The band’s critically acclaimed album Road to Freedom(Talkin’ Loud Records) received a Mercury Music Prize nomination, and their hit single Apparently Nothin’” remains an enduring classic of the era.

“As Young Disciples, we approached the project with creative endeavour — to make a genuine piece of art.” — Femi Fem

Following the success of Young Disciples, Femi became an in-demand producer, songwriter, and remixer, collaborating with international stars including Mary J. Blige, Des’ree, Ultra Naté, Justin Timberlake, D’Influence, The Pasadenas, and Beyoncé.

As a DJ, Femi has brought his soulful, eclectic sound to events for Prince, Janet Jackson, Lauryn Hill, D’Angelo, Angie Stone Stella McCartney, Jade Jagger, Gucci, with trips tovarious European & American cities, Australia Japan & Hong Kong. His flair for blending music and fashion has seen him create bespoke catwalk soundtracks for designers such as Ozwald Boateng, Katharine Hamnett, Julien Macdonald, Bella Freud, and Groove Odyssey. He also founded the iconic, MOBO Award-winning club night Rotation at London’s Subterranea a touchstone for the city’s soulful nightlife.

Today, Femi continues to innovate with his latest project, Eye of the High a collaboration with award-winning producer and musician Glen Scott. Together, they craft a future-facing blend of soul, funk, and jazz, drawing on a shared heritage that includes work with Craig David, Beverley Knight, Mary J. Blige, Loose Ends, Des’ree, and Luis Fonsi, alongside projects such as Cool World Ensemble and I.G. Culture.

You can also catch Femi Fem live on air every Sunday from 9-11 pm, hosting his own radio show a weekly celebration of groove, creativity, and timeless soul.
