The Creative Force Behind the Sputnik Phenomenon, Martin Degville was more than just the lead singer of Sigue Sigue Sputnik — he was the driving visionary behind the band's sound, style, and futuristic identity. As co-songwriter, stylist, and image-maker, Degville engineered a unique aesthetic that merged punk, glam rock, and cyberpunk, creating one of the most distinctive looks and sounds of the 1980s.
In 1986, Sigue Sigue Sputnik exploded onto the global music scene with the hit single “Love Missile F1-11”, taken from their critically acclaimed debut album Flaunt It. The track's deep basslines, pounding drums, and synth-driven production captured the zeitgeist of the era. Degville’s radical fashion and visual identity amplified the band’s reach, setting them apart on a global scale.
Follow-up hits like “21st Century Boy” and “Success” (produced by Stock, Aitken & Waterman) further solidified their presence. Other notable releases include “Dancerama” and the avant-garde “Albinoni vs Star Wars.”
Under Degville’s leadership, the band recorded additional albums with EMI including Dress for Excess, Pirate Space, and Ultra Real. Their performances included shows at the Royal Albert Hall and tours across the U.S. and Japan.
In 1991, Martin launched his solo career with World War Four, fusing his electro-punk roots with darker rock elements. Later, he evolved the sound into Sigue Sigue Sputnik Electronic — blending cutting-edge electro rock with his signature cyber-shock style.
He continues to perform and inspire new generations through music, art, and fashion, with a new concept album in progress and a planned 2027 release.
