Boy (2010) | A big-hearted Maori coming of age comedy from acclaimed director Taika Waititi (Hunt for the Wilderpeople, What We Do In The Shadows, Thor: Ragnarok). His offbeat humour and charm can be felt throughout the film where Waititi plays the far-from-perfect dad, influenced by his upbringing.
Boy, an 11 year old child and devout Michael Jackson fan who lives in the east of New Zealand in 1984, gets a chance to know his absentee criminal father, who has returned to find a bag of money he buried years ago.
The film broke box office records in New Zealand and gave local artists a national audience through its wonderful soundtrack. This makes for a perfect summer evening watch to celebrate 90 Minute Movie Club's 2nd birthday!
"A tender and funny film, it deserves to be seen" - The Guardian.
