There?s something very exciting coming to a fashionable Manchester suburb in April this year? from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th the inaugural West Didsbury Comedy Festival will take place in venues concentrated within a square mile of each other, even including the local chippy!

Modelled on the likes of Machynlleth Comedy Festival in mid Wales and London?s Greenwich Comedy Festival, the ethos behind the event is to provide top quality comedy in a small, snug area. As Festival director Kev Rook notes it?s all about ?big laughs in intimate venues; putting the community right at the centre of this exciting event.?

Hosted across 8 venues there are 30 shows with 50 performers involved, featuring some of the biggest names in UK comedy. They include The Infinite Monkey Cage?s Robin Ince, The Tez O?Clock Show?s Tez Ilyas, a law (pardon the pun) unto himself Tony Law, Taskmaster?s Lou Sanders, legendary musical comedian Boothby Graffoe and the hugely acclaimed Sophie Duker. Arguably the line up is the best ever stand up to feature in Manchester over one single weekend!

There?s something for everyone as shows will take place during the day and late into the night in some of West Didsbury?s favourite bars and businesses. Along with traditional stand up the festival also features family and kid friendly shows, a new act competition, quiz night, food events and if that wasn?t enough community conscience will be maintained throughout as the festival will be raising money for Didsbury?s Francis House Children?s Hospice.

TV names, festival favourites and rising stars will make West Didsbury the comedy capital of UK for the last weekend in April.

Festival Director Kev Rook noted of the event,

?As much needed as the Women in Comedy Festival is, Manchester doesn?t currently have an ?open to all? comedy festival, which is a travesty with our comedy heritage. We are looking to fill that void with a festival that we hope will be a bit special, seeing big names and rising stars in much smaller venues than you?d usually see them, but with huge atmospheres!?

Everything kicks off on the Friday night with opening event at the Woodstock Arms with Robin Ince and Boothby Graffoe, Tony Law launches his own brand of surreal there the following night and also on the Saturday the as-seen-on-Christmas-Eve-on-The-Jonathan-Ross-Show Bec Hill drops by on her national tour. The festival?s new act competition sponsored by Worker Bee Tea and Coffee begins on 27th February every week for four weeks culminating in the final the last show of the festival at headlined by Lou Sanders no less.
