Up Next is Skiddle's guide to the best in new music, and this week we've got a huge trance single, new dubstep, brooding electronic and more to share with you. And, Birmingham's Swordfish Records have selected a record that you can't miss too. Check out the best new music below.
DJ Seinfeld ft Ary - Of Joy
Here’s a new trance single from DJ Seinfeld. The track revolves around the vocals of Norwegian artist Ary, who sets the tone with a hopeful, yet saddened performance. It makes for a sense of bittersweetness, which makes sense given Ary describes her verses as “about that moment when you dare to ask yourself if it’s okay to be happy again, and to let go of grief.”
Seinfeld compliments this perfectly with beats that sound like drops in the ocean.
Charlie Sparks featuring Azyr - Power
If you want it to feel like your eardrums are about to implode then ‘Power’ should be your go-to destination. ‘Power’ is an absolutely evil collaboration between Charlie Sparks and Azyr, featuring vocals that feel like they sampled hell itself, amongst hard, fast techno that pummels you. It’s the first release on Mutate Records.
White Flowers - Thinking Of You
White Flowers’ new single is incredible. The Preston duo have a knack for creating luscious dreamscapes that switch between dream pop, shoegaze and electronic. ‘Thinking Of You’ sees synths swelter like galaxies spinning above you. This is music for dreaming, but also for falling in love, it has an extra, magical quality.
My New Band Believe - Numerology
My New Band Believe is the new project of Black Midi’s Cameron Picton. The band were apparently born from a fever dream. Perhaps that explains the madcap rush that runs throughout ‘Numerology’. The track is frantic, a mixture of discordant jazz sections and dream-like states, it is brilliantly bonkers experimental joy.
Jessie Ware - Ride
It’s a contractual obligation to have fun to a Jessie Ware song. The pop artist always embeds club night sounds into her work to make irresistible earworms that will make you feel like the main character on the dancefloor. ‘Ride’ has a certain glossy feel to its melody, a bit of an 80s throwback that makes it feel like you’re at an exclusive party.
Thundercat & Mac Miller - She Knows Too Much
It certainly gives you a sense of whiplash upon first hearing Mac Miller’s vocals on a track again. Thundercat received permission from Miller’s estate to finish the recording, which the pair started before his passing in 2018. Their voices crisscross across a funk-laden beat interrupted by blasts of trumpet. It’s the perfect song to unwind to.
Cola - Hedgesitting
A smart new single from Montreal’s Cola, ‘Hedgesitting’ has a melody that feels like spots of sunlight peaking through the clouds. A song that feels part art rock, part new wave, it’s a joy to feel the different directions the guitars go in.
Commodo feat Alfa Mist - Deep Harbour
Dubstep will be big in 2026. And it’s tracks like Commodo and Alfa Mist’s ‘Deep Harbour’ that are waving the flag for the genre. Feel those deep waves of bass rattle around your skull amongst an ambient backbeat that you can feel flowing through your body. The way this production takes its time to slowly integrate new elements is a joy to behold.
Tinlicker - Melancholia
Tinlicker are back with a new release on Cercle Records. A track that immediately feels reflective in nature, there’s a cinematic quality to the synths that preside over the track. A propulsive bass drives it forward, and there’s a real sense of emotional heft that lingers across its runtime. ‘Melancholia’ will get you dancing but it’ll pull at your heartstrings too.
Swordfish Records Pick - The Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis: Deface The Currency
Recommended track: 'Deface The Currency'
Birmingham's Swordfish Records are this week's record store pick. They've been around in the city since the late 1970s, and have also spent some time operating as a label as well as a shop.
They've picked a fantastic jazz record as the Up next Spotlight Pick this week from The Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis.
