Twisted Logic Review - 6/10/04

Weeknights in Newcastle offer very little for the serious clubber. If you don’t like dancing to Chesney, getting your eagle on or lapping up the ‘barcore’, then there’s not much for you to do.

Which is why Twisted Logic is a welcome change to the scene. Ever since its launch in April, the monthly night (first Wednesday of every month to be precise) at Liquid in the Bigg Market has provided a much needed alternative to the norm.

A good mix of residents and local talent has seen the night start pretty well in what is a pretty tough market to break into. And, with the likes of Jon O’Bir booked over the coming months, the future looks bright.

Liquid probably has the best sound system of any bar in Newcastle even though it is a bit on the loud side, something which still needs to be sorted. Nevertheless, it was still put to very good use on this particular night. The bar is big and spacious as well, meaning there is plenty of room to dance (this also meant a lack of seating, although whether this is good or bad, I’ll leave to you to decide). The DJ Box is close enough to help add to the atmosphere as well.

First on the decks was Nick Rodger. As the bar started to fill up, he didn’t do a bad job of entertaining the early arrivals. Playing the likes of Josh Wink – Oakish, Paul Lancaster - Freaky Nation, Sound Alliance – Precious and Conceptual - Photon Frequency. However, the place was still a bit quiet by the time his set had closed and it was time for up and coming talent, Luke Terry, to take over.

A slow start by Terry soon evaporated as he showed just why he was rated so highly with some good mixing. Soon he had the attention of the crowd as he dropped tunes such as Matti Laamanen - Obsession (Luke Terry Remix), Bossanova - Stone Cold (Afterburn Remix) and Icone - Astra (Arc In The Sky Remix). By the time he played Underworld - Born Slippy as his last tune, the dance floor in front of the DJ booth had filled up a little bit. Although most people were still just watching from the wings.

It was the Twisted Logic residents, Jim Craik and MK X, who had the pleasure of closing another rather successful party for the night. A few more people on the dance floor would have been welcome but it would be hard to fault the music that was played or the talent of the DJs. After hearing the likes of Radiohead - Street Spirit(Tiesto bootleg remix), Hertz - Recreate(Montana remix) and Guy Mcaffer - RAW09 remix, the punters went home happy and left the Twisted team to prepare for the visit of O’Bir in November.
